The new commissioner of Police in Sokoto state Murtala Usman Mani says efforts towards addressing the menace of rustling and banditry in some local government areas of the state were yielding results.
He also noted that most of those involved were external criminals.
He disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Sokoto .
“I am assuring that our men, the army civil defence and all other security agencies are there, and the amnesty is working because most of those who brought their arms are giving security agencies useful information regarding criminal activities within the areas. Most of what we have is external criminals, not within the state particularly in Isa, and so on,”
He explained that there were infiltration around Raba area from Zamfara.
Mani said it was of paramount importance that all hands be on deck in ensuring security. “Security is a collective business,” he added.
The police commissioner also tasked journalists. “All over world the press contributes positively in the security, politics and social development of any nation, Nigeria not an exception.”
He stressed: “When we talk of security, we are talking of collective responsibility. It is my duty, it is your duty, it is the duty of every responsible citizen, it is not something we should handle with kid-glove.”
The police boss stressed the need to always give the press has a very important role timely and useful information that would make security personnel act decisively and promptly.
“Policing is all about grassroots, “ he added.
