President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Ahmed Yakasai has reiterated the commitment of the society to rid the nation of fake and falsified medicines which he said are in heavy circulation.
However he said the society is working hard to deploy technology into pharmacy practice in the country through building of a robust IT Platform where data of regulatory agencies will interface.
Yakasai spoke in during the 11th annual scientific conference and exposition of Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas, Inc. (NAPPSA) held in Houston Texas USA last week.
In a speech delivered at the event, Yakasai stressed the need for a more robust relationship with NAPPSA "to build a health and pharmaceutical sectors in Nigeria that we can all be proud of."
Speaking on the theme of the conference on “Advancing Pharmaceutical Care and Wellness in a Changing Economy”, he said it has a direct impact on the current situation in the country.
He added, "In the last 18 months, Nigeria’s economy has experienced a myriad of negative changes which have directly impacted the pharmaceutical sector; access to quality and affordable medicines, wellness and above all, the quality of lives of our people.
"In our world of uncertainties, I believe taking a microscopic look at this theme will help us to anticipate and be better prepared for any future changes in the economy. I believe this conference will update us on best practices in pharmacy and emerging trends in pharmaceutical science", he said.
