The Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has been registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to operate as a legal entity. A statement jointly signed by Ocholi Ndanusa, the Interim President and Omonu Nelson, Interim Secretary, said the new development is a major milestone in a bid to change the Igala narrative.

“The Igalas have a very rich and colourful cultural heritage that can be harnessed for the socio-cultural and economic development of the area, Kogi State and Nigeria at large. But these huge potentials have been grossly misreported and under-reported.

“The birth of FORIJA, therefore, is out of greater desire to objectively, expose the potentials inherent in the area to the rest of Nigeria,” they said.

The platform, the group says, will engage in activities aimed at arousing the interest of the upcoming generations in the journalism profession, through advocacy and enlightenment programmes.

“One of the flagship programmes of the Forum, will be to liaise with traditional, educational institutions in the area and beyond, in a deliberate effort to sensitize youths in the area on the significance of taking up carrier in journalism,” the group said.
