Ahead of the Christmas celebration, an Abuja-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) has donated food items and clothing materials to over 250 widows and orphans in the FCT as part of its reach-out programme.
The NGO, Helpline Foundation for the Needy Abuja, said the gesture is aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the vulnerable, while revealing that this year is the 17th edition of its reach-out programme.
The founder, Dr. Jummai Ahmadu, stressed that the beneficiaries of the programme were drawn from the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory irrespective of ethnicity or religious background.
She also stated that the foundation has embarked on training of widows and some vulnerable youths in fish farming and other skills that would enable them become employers of labour, while tasking widows to embrace entrepreneurial skills.
She used the occasion to thank partners of the foundation, especially the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Abuja council, FCT Department of Information and Communications, and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for their support.
Earlier, Chairman of FCT NAWOJ, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene, said the women journalists in the nation’s capital have resolved to partner with the foundation to achieve one of its objectives of empowering women and the vulnerable in the society.
