The Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin Tanko, has called on leaders of the various ethnic groups in his chiefdom to continue to maintain peace and harmony in their domains.
Alhaji Haruna made the call during a joint stakeholders meeting which had in attendance representatives of various security agents held at the secretariat’s conference hall on Tuesday.
He said there was need for every individual, irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations, to preach peace, stressing that society can only develop when there is peace and harmonious understanding among the people.
The traditional ruler also cautioned those who engaged in provocative comments to desist, saying unguarded utterances sometimes created tension that could result into crisis.
“I will also want to use the meeting to remind community leaders to support our security agents by giving them useful information that will help contain any breakdown of law and order in their domains,” he also said.
The chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, said earlier that the council decided to summon the joint stakeholders and security meeting to ensure peace and harmony is sustained among residents of the area.
He urged those who are bent on spreading rumour without verification to desist, saying his administration was determined to secure the lives and property of every individual in the council.
On his part, the chairman of the ethnic council of chiefs, Mr. Ishaku Garba, assured that the ethnic groups in the council would continue to maintain the existing peace that Kuje is known for.
