Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Wednesday evening kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Edwin Omorogbe in Edo State.
It was gathered that Fr. Omorogbe was abducted at Egba junction along Benin-Ekpoma road while returning from Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area to Benin.
He was said to have gone for humanitarian service in Edo Central Senatorial district of the state when he was kidnapped at gun point on his way to Benin.
It was further gathered that operatives of the Edo State Police Command have begun combing the forest in Uhunmwode Local Government Area in search of the Catholic priest.
It was gathered that the kidnappers are yet to make contact with anybody over the development.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Jognson Kokumo, who confirmed the incident, said efforts were on to secure the release of the reverend father.
He assured the people of the state that the kidnapped priest would be released as soon as possible.
