Gunmen on Thursday reportedly killed an official of the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ATAMA) in Awka, the state capital.

City & Crime learnt that the incident occurred at about 6.30 am at the popular Aroma junction by Sunny Star Motor Park.

Our correspondent in the state reports that the gunmen were blocked by the ATAMA officials when they were driving against traffic.

A witness said immediately the ATAMA officials stopped the tinted Siena bus which the gunmen were traveling with, they opened fire and killed one of the officials, injuring others.

He said the sound of the gun forced passengers waiting to board buses at the park to scamper for safety.

Efforts to speak to ATAMA authority on the incident proved abortive as none of the officials were willing to talk to the journalists on the incident.
