The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe said they will continue to render skeletal services to patients during the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU).
Our correspondent who visited the hospital on Thursday observed that in spite of the strike, corps members and contract staffs mobilized by the hospital management were seen attending to the patients.
The FTH health workers had yesterday joined their colleagues across the country to embark on an indefinite strike action to press for their demands.
JOHESU Public Relations Officer at FTH, Gombe, Idris Bello, in a statement said that members of the union were left with no other option than to join the strike following the failure of the Federal Government to fulfil its part of an agreement entered into regarding the issue of Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) adjustments among other matters.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr Abubakar Sai’du, said the industrial action called by the JOHESU is unfortunate.
He said: “Even though there would be a breakdown of normal services at the facility, the hospital will continue to take care of all its patients. Although we could not provide services at full capacity, but we will try as much as possible to attend to our patients.”
Dr Sa’idu added that the hospital would continue to provide services to patients at the emergency unit and routine clinics.
