The Academic Staff Union of Kaduna Polytechnic has suspended the strike action it embarked upon seven weeks ago.

Rising from an emergency congress which held on October 17, 2017, the union said the strike was suspended as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached with the management and the payment of some outstanding allowances by the new Rector, Professor Idris M. Bugaje.

Kadpoly ASUP had embarked on a strike action over what it described as poor working conditions, irregular academic calendar, and routine lack of consumables for laboratory practicals among others.

The strike action crippled academic activities in the Polytechnic as students could not complete their first semeter examination.

According to the chairman of the union, Dr. Aliyu Hassan Ibrahim, the strike was suspended to give the Rector the benefit of doubt to solve the lingering problems of the polytechnic.

The suspension he also said is for a period of six months after which the union will reassess the MOU reached with the management and decide on next line of action.

He called on the Polytechnic management to ensure full compliance with all agreements reached for continuous industrial peace on the institution while he called on members to immediately resume their normal academic activities.
