No few than 142 graduands of Madrasatu Nuril Islam Sabuwar-Abuja in Kankia local government area of Katsina state have been presented with certificate during the school’s graduation ceremony this year.

Also some pioneer teachers as and individuals who contributed to the development of the school were honoured at the event, held at the school premises.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Lawal Mustapha Daura called the state and local governments to create opportunities that would better the lives of memorisers of the Holy Quran.

Daura said, “Allah is blessing us in many ways because of these children who read and memorised His book. Unfortunately, they are the category of people that are being neglected in the society.

“We must change our attitude and consider them as literates like it is done in some countries. Somebody who memorized Quran is never an illiterate; we should provide job or allowance to them to improve their lives.”

The Headmaster of the school, Malam Muhammad Mahdi Ibrahim, said that the school has 2,020 students and 28 teachers.

He explained that the students had represented the local government in Qur’anic recitation competitions at both state and national levels.

“The school provided over 70 per cent of teachers to ‘Zaid Ibn Thabit Litahfizil Quran School and other schools within the town,” he said.

In his remarks, the Grand Patron of the school, Alhaji Umaru Bature, prayed to Almighty Allah to reward all those who contributed to the development of the school and urged wealthy individuals to construct additional classes, provide furniture and drill borehole in the school.

The District Head of Kankia, represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Hassan Sada, promised continuous support of the traditional institution toward improving Islamic education in the area.
