Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called on small and medium scale business owners in the state to contribute their quota to the infrastructural development of the state through prompt payment of
taxes.
Secretary to the Kano state government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who represented the governor at a one-day sensitization workshop organized for tricycle operators by the office of special assistant to the governor on tricycles Salihu Shitu, said development in any part of the world was a function of collective responsibility between the government and the private sector.
“You all know that there are many countries which do not have crude oil, but they depend on internally generated revenues for day-to-day running of governments and provision of social services for their populace. Anywhere there is development world over, the issue of taxation is not being joked with, it is taken seriously.
“Take for instance, a land owner who leases out his shop for rent, you must know the plot on which the shop or house is built is a property of every citizen of Kano state; it is given to you on trust based on agreement, so what is the harm if you should be asked to pay some token in respect of Kano populace that have given you the place on trust?
“Anyone who pays tax is not doing that for the government but for then entire populace because through the taxes the government builds roads and hospitals, buys drugs, pays salaries and many other services” he said.
