Makaranta Malam Bambadiya and Pleasant Library and Books, Katsina is calling for entries for its first Hausa Short Story Writing Competition. The annual contest would serve as a means of enhancing writing in Hausa and focus on issues concerning the Hausa people and Nigeria as a whole. 

The competition is open to Hausa writers all over the world, male and female. The best three will be selected and rewarded, while the best 15 writings will be compiled and made into a publication. All eligible writers are expected to submit works that are loosely around the theme of ‘Poverty’

Writers are to submit an excerpt of their short story of not more than 500 words. The best 45 writing excerpts will be selected by the month of December 2017. Writers of the best 45 excerpts will then be required to send their full stories to be submitted to the judges that will select the best three writings and the remaining 12 best writings by the month of January 2017. Winners will be announced in the month of February 2018.

The winning story will receive a cash prize of N55,000, while N35,000 will go to the first runner up and N25,000 to the second runner up. The remaining 12 writings to be published will be awarded a consolation prize of N12,500. All the 15 winning writings will be edited, reviewed, published and launched in a mini-ceremony to be held in Katsina.
