The abducted chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Dobi ward in Gwagwalada  Area Council, Abubakar  Sarki,  has regained freedom.

City News gathered that the kidnappers released Sarki, after his family paid a  ransom of N2.1 million.

A member of the  victim’s  family who preferred anonymity told our reporter yesterday that the abductors  were also given recharge cards of N20, 000 comprising of Glo and Airtel networks.

He said the victim was  released  at about 9:46pm at Wumi-Goi community  forest,  adding that he placed a phone call to his family who immediately  alerted his friend to pick him up at the forest.

He said the ransom was paid through the victim’s friend, who has been communicating with the abductors since last Thursday, pleading with them to bring the ransom down from N50 million  till they finally  agreed at N2.1million.

“In fact,  the kidnappers also demanded for N20,000 recharge cards of Glo and Airtel networks, before they  finally  released him,” he said.

City News had  earlier reported that the APC chairman of Dobi ward was kidnapped by gunmen at his Kaidna Sabo village  after they inflicted injuries  on his family members.

When contacted, the Gwagwalada  Divisional  Police  Officer  (DPO), CDP Chuks Obasi,  confirmed the release of the APC ward chairman via telephone, but said he was not aware of any ransom paid to the abductors.

“ All I can tell you  is that the man who was kidnapped has regained freedom unhurt, but I am not aware  of any ransom that was paid,” he said.
