The police have said that helicopters will again be deployed to patrol and provide aerial surveillance along the Kaduna-Abuja highway to help bring an end to killings and kidnappings in the area.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, AIG Salisu A. Fagge, stated this yesterday during his visit to Sabon Gaya community where he assured the community that the killers of a commander of the Civilian JTF, Haruna Halilu, would soon be brought to book.
Daily Trust reports that hundreds of villagers on Sunday blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway to protest the killing of the Civilian JTF commander in their community by suspected kidnappers who, they said, have taken over their community.
AIG Fagge said while the killing was painful, blocking the highway by the villagers was not permitted either as it amounted to taking the laws into their hands.
The AIG said the show of force tour which culminated in the visit to the community was to assure the community and the entire Zone 7, comprising of the FCT, Niger and Kaduna states, that the police have the capacity to provide security and end kidnappings, armed robbery and killings in the areas.
The tour started in Abuja around 7:30am with the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Bello, leading over 25 police vehicles with about 60 policemen who were joined by their counterparts from Niger State at Dikko junction led by the command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Austin Agbonlahor.
Led by its commissioner, CP Agyole Abeh, the Kaduna command with its over 40 police vehicles mounted by over 100 policemen joined the convoy at Jere town and the convoy proceeded to Sabon Gaya community.
