The Senate yesterday urged the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to set up a special squad to get rid of bandits in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states.
Senators also urged the Federal Government to mandate the Nigerian Air Force and the Police helicopter divisions to carry out aerial surveillance of the three states to identify the locations of the bandits that attack communities in the three stated.
Deliberating on a motion by Senator Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi) the lawmakers called for synergy among the Department of State Security (DSS), the police and the armed forces on ways to defeat the bandits.
The lawmakers resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the government and people of Sokoto State over the recent killing of 40 persons at Dogon-Yero of Raba Local Government Area of the state.
