Residents of Kiru community, under the umbrella of Kiru Community Health Forum and Kiru Youth Development Association (KIYODA) have carried out sanitation exercise at their healthcare facility.
Acting Secretary of the health forum, Magaji Muhammad Sambo said they organized the work to contribute their quota towards effective maintenance of the hospital.
He said, “There is need for the community to liaise with few workers of the healthcare facility to provide better healthcare services to the residents of the community. The workers are not adequate to keep the hospital clean that is why the forums organised the sanitation exercise to clean the facility.
“There are many problems affecting the facility, the health workers are inadequate and that is why the forums solicited the assistance of health workers who are indigenes of the local government to come and offer voluntary services at their convenient time. The forum, in conjunction with other committees is also providing working tools such as Sphygmomanometer and funds to buy drugs for the residents to enjoy.
On his part, Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim, KIYODA President said the decision of the elders in the community to participate in the sanitation exercise had encouraged them to initiate more of such kind of community assignments.
Umar Halilu, a long serving employee at the healthcare centre said, “We were sixteen in number when the healthcare facility was commissioned in 1992, but now only three of us are available. All the rest have either retired or dead and there is no replacement. We are facing inadequate manpower in the facility.”
A resident of the community, Haruna Alhaji called on the state government to upgrade the facility to the status of general hospital, and appealed to wealthy individuals in the community to assist the facility in any way possible.
