Labour Unions in Osun State have issued a 21-day ultimatum to Osun state government over the arrears of salaries of workers in the state and threatened to go on strike if salary arrears were not paid within the period.

 

The letter of the ultimatum which was addressed to the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola was signed by Chairmen and Secretaries of 19 labour unions in the state including the Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC) Trade Union Congress, (TUC) Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT) among others.

 

The Chairman of NLC in the state, Comrade Jacob Adekomi said the labour unions want the state government to commence the full payment of November 2017 salary, the payment of pension and gratuity and promotion of workers without condition. 

 

He also urged the state government to pay the outstanding arrears of the contributory pension in order to alleviate the suffering of civil servants who retired under the scheme. 

 

Adekomi said if the state government fails to meet the demands within the period of the ultimatum, workers in the state will go on indefinite strike action.
