An ad-hoc committee of the Senate yesterday grilled the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over the re-appearance, reinstatement and promotion of former Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina.

The panel chaired by Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP, Bayelsa) grilled Malami for hours at the new Senate wing over his role in the Maina saga.

Journalists who had stormed the venue were excused by the panel chairman. The panel had penultimate Wednesday held similar session with top functionaries of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FSCS).

Paulker, who commended the AGF for appearing before the panel, said they were mandated by the Senate to carry out the investigation.

He said that the resolution to look into the matter was not meant to “witch-hunting’ anybody” and the Senate was only carrying out its constitutional responsibility of ensuring good governance in the country.

“We will call the press at the end of the investigation. For now we will go into a closed-door session so that we will not be swapping between I said this I did not say this. Though Nigerian press is so matured, I am not saying they will misquote us.”
