Bath bombs are chunks of wonderfully scented moulded balls that slowly fizz. The fizz takes about five minutes when thrown into your warm bath and the chemical reaction between bicarbonate of soda and citric is what makes your bath bomb fizz and move across the tub. They have had quite the journey, from just a creamy bath bomb to becoming a showcase of art right in our tubs.

A bath bomb is an agreeable global agent for de-stressing after a vigorous day, or just a need for some much needed personal time.

Therefore, thinking of a perfect gift? Bath bombs are. However, they can be very costly, but fret not, because here’s how to make the perfect bath bomb for your self-indulgence or gift for a loved one.

Ingredients

* ½ baking soda

* ¼ epsom salt

* ¼ corn starch

* ¼ citric acid

* 1-2 teaspoons of water

* 3-4 teaspoons of coconut oil and

* 2 teaspoons of oil of choice for scent (essential)

* Dried flower petals and food coloring (optional)

Directions

* Combine all your dry ingredients in a bowl and stir together with a whisk.

* Next comes in your coconut oil, essential oil and food colouring and dried flower (optional).

Stir until ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Add your water slowly and add only as much as needed because the mixture will fizz upon exposure to water. Don’t forget to stir vigorously to reduce fizzing while adding water. Stop adding water when your mixture is wet enough to stick together, then press mixture into moulds. Leave it in the moulds for 10 minutes, then carefully remove bath bombs from the moulds.

Put bath bombs out to dry for a day.

Bath bombs will get less effective as time goes on. The fresher they are, the faster they’ll fizz, so make little batches as needed. You can get all the ingredients you need at any of the stores that stock soap-making supplies.
