A 28-year-old man, Stanley Okafor, on Friday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged theft of television set worth N95,000.
Okafor, who resides at 24, Wilfred St., Ajara Agamethon in Badagry, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Akpam Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 13 at a Shopping Complex in Aradagun area of Badagry.
Ikem said the complainant, Mr Jeff Nwadike, had asked the accused to deliver the television set to a customer but he instead, diverted it to his personal use.
“Instead of delivering the television set to the customer, the accused took it to his house and started using it,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which stipulates three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum.
Adefioye said the surety should provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and he adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for mention.
