A 54-year-old businessman, Henry Ogbado, has been arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly paving way for an unknown person to steal a child.
Ogbado, who resides at Dape village, Abuja, was arraigned on a count charge of negligent conduct.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, however, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.
Sadiq ordered that the surety must be a level 9 officer in the civil service and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge said the surety must present a current utility bill in his name to the court registrar, and adjourned the matter until May 14 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that one Matthew Andrew, the defendant’s neighbour, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station.
Zannah informed the court that the complainant left his 4-year-old son, David Matthew, in custody of the defendant and went to work.
He said the defendant neglected the boy, thereby paving way for unknown person to steal the 4-year-old boy.
The prosecutor added that the defendant could not give satisfactory account of the missing boy during investigation.
Zannah told the court that all efforts made to locate the boy proved abortive, while the offence contravened Section 196 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
