MTN Foundation has donated some new set of medical supplies and equipments to the Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Anambra.
The gesture, according to MTN, was executed as part of its corporate social responsibility codenamed Emergency Ward Intervention project.
The medical equipments include digital patient monitors, stethoscopes, fracture immobilizers, laryngoscopes, aspiration-suction machines, among others.
MTN says its aim was to enable hospitals in the communities get their hands on expensive and much-needed technology to cater for and improve the healthcare of residents living in Anambra and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the event, Anambra state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, who represented the state governor thanked MTN Foundation for the kind gesture towards the state.
He recalled that MTN initially provided the means for the state to cater for 24 hours emergency services in the state, saying that it is better to prepare for emergency than to expect it not to happen.
Notable dignitaries present at the occasion include the Director of MTN Foundation, Mr. Dennis Okoro; Ag. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Anambra State, Dr. John Ndibe; Chief Medical Director, COOUTH, Dr. Basil Nwankwo; Chief Medical Director, General Hospital Onitsha, Dr. Ebelechukwu Anukwu; Senior Manager, MTN Foundation, Mr. Abasi-Ekong Udobang; Manager Health Portfolio, MTN Foundation Mr Victor Orie-Ononogbu; and other stakeholders.
According to a statement from MTN, the Emergency Ward Intervention project train will move to Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA 1), Ebonyi before concluding at Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH), Owerri.
It will be recalled that MTN Foundation has continued to support improved healthcare delivery across Nigeria, as it also donated medical supplies to some government hospitals in Northeast Nigeria especially during the period of insurgency.
