One of the two suspects paraded by the police in Plateau State for allegedly killing a pregnant woman has said he only assisted his friend in burying the deceased because of threats on his life.

During the parade at the command’s headquarters in Jos, the Police Commissioner, Undie Adie, alleged that the suspects conspired to strangle a pregnant woman identified as Miss Alice Samuel in Riyom LGA of the state.

Adie said one Gyang Jok of Tahoss village in Riyom LG reported to his village chief that his son, Stephen Gyang, 20, had confessed to have conspired with one Kelly James, 20, of Jebbu Bassa and killed his (Stephen’s) girlfriend, Alice who was pregnant.

He said Jok reported also that his son and his friend dumped the body of the deceased into a pit behind his family house in the village.

“Upon interrogation the two suspects, Stephen Gyang and Kelly James, confessed to the crime and would be charged to court,” the CP said.

While reacting, the suspect, Stephen Gyang said it happened as a result of argument between him and his girlfriend who was three months pregnant.

“When she told me she was pregnant I told her to abort it but she refused, it was during fisticuffs that I knocked her down, but I loved her,” he said.

The accomplice, James, on his part, said he helped his friend to bury the deceased because he (friend) threatened to kill him if he refused to.
