The preference and over concentration on university education against polytechnics has grave implication for our national development, the President of Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Ahmad Yabagi, has said.

Speaking at its 34th annual general conference in Katsina, Yabagi said the disparity created between the two has made the youths lose interest in technological education which is the base of national development the world over.

According to him, already, the association has written to the president with a view to reverting the trend and putting the nation on the path of growth and development.

While commending the Katsina State government for abolishing the disparity between HND and degree holders in its civil service, Yabagi said the association is closely monitoring a court case filed by some of its members on the removal of grade level 14 ceiling of HND holders in the service.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Masari, represented by his Special Adviser, Science and Technology, Rabe Nasir, said government has placed education as its priority adding that abolishing the dichotomy was to improve and revamp the service.

“We are ready to listen and review any hindrance that may be noticed by well meaning people. We are a people-oriented government,” he added.
