The police in Jigawa State have arrested a 25-year-old newly married woman for allegedly killing her day-old child.
The suspect, Hadiza Danfanna, who is from Abunabo village in Guri Local Government Area was alleged to have married her husband while she was four months pregnant and that she was able to conceal it up to delivery period and gave birth secretly but threw away the baby.
She was alleged to have been pregnant to her former 25-year-old boyfriend, of Masari village and that she refused to disclose her condition before getting married.
The offensive odour from the decomposing corpse of the baby was said to have compelled the group of youth playing football in the area to search the area and that they discovered the decomposing body of the baby.
When contacted, the state police command spokesman, SP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the arrest of the suspect adding that the discovery of the corpse led to the arrest of the perpetrator of the crime.
He said both Danfanna and Lili were arrested by the police and that as soon as investigation was completed they would be arraigned.
“Hadiza Danfanna got married to her new husband, Babanna Abdullahi aka Danfanna, 50, while she was four months pregnant to her former boyfriend.
“In an effort to keep the pregnancy away from her new husband, she decided to deliver secretly and killed the newly born baby girl,” he said.
