The United States of America and the Nigerian government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Commercial Investment Dialogue (CID) to strengthen bilateral investments and promote private sector involvement in the bilateral commercial relationship.
At a meeting convened by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in Abuja, yesterday, to discuss the modalities of the dialogue, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of Commerce, Seward Jones, said the two countries would identify barriers to investments and trade as well as opportunities in mutual investments and trade.
The meeting was a follow-up to the signing ceremony held earlier in the morning at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Jones said the two countries would prioritise investments in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and digital economy.
The Executive Secretary of the NIPC, Ms. Yewade Sadiku, said the essence of the CID is to promote and sustain economic engagement between the two countries and identify sectors that will bring bilateral investments.
Sadiku, represented by a deputy director in the commission, Bala Bello, said a secretariat will be set up to monitor and evaluate progress by the private sector on investment relations between the two countries.
