The Nigerian Army University, Biu in Borno State would offer admission to both military and civilian population, the implementation committee has said.

The leader of the committee, Major General Lawal Faskari disclosed this on Friday during a courtesy call on the Minister of State Foreign Affairs Hajiya Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim in Abuja.

Faskari told the minister that the committee’s visit was to solicit her support and cooperation and that of the Federal Executive Council.

General Faskari also stressed the need for the host community of the proposed university to provide an enabling environment for its take-off.

Responding, the minister commended the Nigerian Army for the initiative and promised to give all necessary support for the actualisation of the project.

She expressed confidence that when fully operational, the university would provide more opportunities for young people to acquire tertiary education and help in reducing youth restiveness in the region.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai, had, in June 2017, said the Army had already reached out to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to secure approval for the university.

The Army chief said the university was being designed as a unique and specialised institution that would serve as solutions centre especially to specific challenges facing the Army and North East.
