Nigerian writers and publishers met with Global Storymakers’ Chief Innovation Officer, Sherry Sacino, to find ways of writing, publishing and selling stories across the world. This took place early this week at City Library in Zone 4, Abuja.
Malam Denja Abdullahi, president of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), said the meeting was “largely exploratory, to see how there could be a collaboration between Nigerian writers, artists, illustrators and publishers with Sacino’s organisation, towards developing a model that will enable the writing and publishing of stories for markets across the world.
Abdullahi added that there was a need to understand how Global Storymakers works, so an alliance can be built.
Sacino described Nigeria as a very progressive country, with citizens who care about having children learn, in mother tongue and other languages. “I hope the writers would want to write, share and sell their books around the world, and also encourage children to write as well. They can do that through the Global Storymakers platform.
Writers at the gathering included Salamatu Sule (author of a children’s storybook, ‘Oma’ the Drummer Queen), Chinyere Obi-Obasi (The Loyal Queen), Dame Joan Oji, also an author and President/CEO of Josiah and Joan Oji Foundation for Girls and Teens.
Global Storymakers is an online storytelling community. It is a network of illustrators, writers, photographers, teachers and technicians committed to giving children a voice in their world by creating their own stories.
