Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba has said that Kano state government is not making any plan to sack teachers in the state.

Responding to a widely circulated rumor that the state government was planning to sack some teachers, the commissioner said the speculation was mischievous, untrue and uncalled-for.

Garba said the state Deputy Governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, who is also the commissioner of education, has never prepared a memo in that respect not to talk of tabling the matter at the council meeting.

“To the best of knowledge, there is no place this issue was discussed at government level. So, present administration of Kano state has no plan whatsoever to sack teachers or any civil servant in the state,” he said.

The commissioner explained that on the contrary, the state government had sponsored 25,000 primary schools teachers to obtain National Certificates (NCE) and degree certificates respectively.

He added that another set of 20,000 teachers were currently studying at various institutions across the country to get their NCE or degree certificates.

He lamented that “It is mischievous to accuse present government of planning to sack teachers. The Ganduje-led administration is not making such move at all.”
