The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) to enhance aviation safety in Africa.

Mrs Bimbo Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NSIB, stated this in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.

Oladeji said that the MoU was to foster cooperation on training, to prevent and mitigate accidents in the country’s transport sector.

According to Oladeji, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NSIB, Capt. Alex Badeh, at the signing ceremony, emphasised that the MoU sets the stage for facility sharing, capacity building, and collaboration between the Bureau and AAAU.

Badeh noted that as part of its support, NSIB has granted AAAU access to its facilities, facilitating an efficient exchange of resources and expertise.

He said this would further solidify the commitment to mutual advancement in aviation safety in Africa.

“I am confident that this MoU will enhance the effectiveness of our collaboration and commitment to promoting safer skies and operational excellence in the aviation industry in Nigeria and beyond,” Badeh said.

While appreciating the Bureau’s invaluable support and partnership, the Registrar of AAAU, Mustapha Abdullahi, said: “The journey of AAAU’s establishment and progress would have faced considerable challenges without NASIB’s generous support.”

The Registrar commended Badeh for his exemplary leadership and steadfast dedication in propelling NSIB to greater heights.

Abdullahi, represented by the Director of Physical Planning and Works, Mr Masud Yerima, affirmed AAAU’s readiness to engage in mutually beneficial endeavours with NSIB.

Oladeji said that the partnership marked a significant milestone in fostering a culture of safety and excellence within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

According to her, NSIB and AAAU are poised to leverage this synergy for the benefit of the industry and the nation at large.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that AAAU is the first Pan-African university dedicated to aviation, aerospace, environmental science, specifically tackling research and development gap in the continent’s aviation and aerospace sector among others. (NAN)
