The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, Malam Audu Kano and six of his executive council members have been abducted by gunmen.
They were on their way to Zamfara State for a wedding when the incident happened.
A resident of Birnin Gwari who prefers not to be named said they left Birnin Gwari at about 2:00 pm on Thursday and were almost at the border town with Zamfara State when they were stopped by some armed men.
He said those travelling from Zamfara to Birnin Gwari were the ones that brought the news of the abduction.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Hussain Aliyu, could not be reached.
