The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that only 3 percent of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), have been collected from the total number ready in various INEC offices across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State.
The Administration Secretary, INEC, Waziri Zannah, stated this in an interview with Daily Trust, on Thursday in Damaturu.
Zannah revealed that the state has a total of 35,778 Permanent Voter Cards that are available for collection but only 1,162 have been collected so far.
"To be precise, 483 and 679 PVCs were collected by the voters in the first and second quarters of 2017, which represents the total 1,162 collected.
"Base on percentage, only 3 percent of the PVCs have so far collected, 97 percent are currently abandoned in INEC offices waiting for the owners", he said.
He also attributed the poor collection of the PVCs to apathy and lack of awareness on the side of voters.
"Some people do come to us for new voters registration while their PVCs are already in the INEC," he said.
He called on opinion leaders, both religious and traditional to sensitize people on the need to collect the PVCs before general elections.
