The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission on Tuesday insisted that the Local Government election across the state billed for 27th of January, 2018 would be conducted as scheduled and urged the people of the State to disregard the information that a court injunction has stopped processes.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Otunba Segun Oladitan and made available to Daily Trust by the Director of Media and Publicity for the Commission, Mr Babatunde Fanawopo, OSIEC said "the information about the court order on the Osun Local government election was fake, illogical in reasoning, hogwash and incapable of standing the test of time."
According to him, "the State of Osun Independent Electoral Commission is not aware of any court process involving it an Abuja Federal High Court and as such cannot be stopped through a funny means by the same court from performing its constitutional duties."
Oladitan queried the locus of the Federal High Court based in Abuja to meddle in a matter affecting the conduct of LG elections in Osun, saying that the fake information is a figment of the imagination of some people.
He assured the people of the state that his commission is very focused and working round the clock to conduct the most credible and acceptable local government election in the state on January 27, 2018.
