The Oyo State government yesterday opened the first phase of the Olodo Bridge for pedestrians on Tuesday, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by road users in that area.
The state government said the bridge will be accessible to vehicles in a few weeks.
The popular Olodo Bridge in Ibadan connects various areas in the state and parts of Osun State. However, it suffered significant damage due to heavy rainfall on July 23, 2023, leading to disruptions in pedestrian and vehicular traffic between Oyo and Osun states.
Speaking with newsmen after inspecting the project, Professor Dahud Sangodoyin, the state’s Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure, and Transport, said the opening of the bridge for pedestrians demonstrates Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to the welfare of the citizens.

Sangodoyin assured that construction would progress swiftly on the second side to meet project deadlines.
The commissioner advised residents to be cautious while using the bridge, as construction activities will continue on the remaining portion.
Evangelist Elizabeth Olalowo, a resident, expressed gratitude to the state government for responding promptly to the community’s needs, describing the bridge opening as a significant relief for the area.
