British Police on Wednesday arrested two more suspects linked to last Friday’s terrorist attack on the London underground railway.
The Metropolitan Police said counter-terrorism officers detained a 48-year-old man and a 30-year-old man in Newport, Wales, following the arrest of a 25-year-old man in the town.
Two other suspects from the London area, aged 18 and 21, were arrested earlier after a home-made bomb was partially detonated on an underground train at London’s Parsons Green station on Friday.
Officers were continuing to search two properties in Newport and two others in outer London on Wednesday,” the police said.
“This continues to be a fast-moving investigation,’’ Commander Dean Haydon, head of counter-terrorism for the Metropolitan Police,” said in a statement.
“A significant amount of activity has taken place since the attack on Friday.
“We now have five men in custody and searches are continuing at four addresses.
“Detectives are carrying out extensive inquiries to determine the full facts behind the attack.,’’ Haydon said.
About 30 people were injured when a bucket packed with nails and the explosive triacetone triperoxide (TATP) partially detonated after being left on a busy train during the morning rush hour.
Many of the victims suffered burns.
The attack was claimed by the Islamic State extremist group, but the police cautioned that such claims were “routine whether or not they’ve had any previous engagement with the individuals involved.’’
