The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has been commended for his dedication and commitment in restoring the nobility and public confidence on the police force.
A retired commissioner of police, Nwachuku Egbochuku, who gave the thumbs up in a chat with newsmen in Awka, also described as unprecedented his proactive response to the recent agitation by some groups to scrap the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
The former police boss however appealed to those agitating for scrapping of the special unit of the force to desist as it would not be to the best interest of the society.
"The IG is proactive. He reacts to issues. A case in point was the recent agitation to scrap SARS. You see what he did; he quickly reorganised SARS and appointed a commissioner to be in charge. He listened to the call of the society," he said.
Acknowledging the overzealous nature of some of the officers, Egbochuku however explained that SARS has over the years proven the best antidote for crime in Nigeria, just as he assured that the reformation carried out by the IG would check such excesses.
He also applauded his ‘excellent policing’ during the recent governorship election in Anambra state, particularly the upfront payment of allowances of police officers involved in the exercise, describing it as a good motivation for them.
