Arrangements are in place to send 200 Sokoto students to India to study medicine and related fields just as the state government said over N3 billion scholarships had been paid to its students from 2015 to date.
The Executive Chairman of the state scholarship board, Hon Altine Shehu Kajiji who disclosed this in a statement in Sokoto, said the amount included tuition fees and upkeep allowance.
He said the students were studying in USA, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Turkey, Sudan, Antigua, Bangladesh, India, Uganda, and Niger Republic. “It also includes payments to more than 10,000 Sokoto students in public and private schools across Nigeria,” he added.
The board chairman said most of the tuition fees payments were up to date especially for students in Sudan and Niger Republic, and assured that efforts had been intensified to make disbursements to students in places where they were not yet up to date in payments.
He said 37 Sokoto students at the Nigerian Law School received upkeep allowances to cover the duration of their stay in addition to their tuition fees paid in 2016, and that each student was also given a laptop to help him in the course of his study.
