A scrap dealer in Yelwa community of Shendam local government area of Plateau state has empowered 30 unemployed youths and less privileged to serve as commercial drivers with a daily remittance of N1, 000.
Daily Trust received information on the philanthropic activities of Usman Kwaro who joined the scrap business about 11 years ago from members of the community who said his efforts had reduce poverty and crime in the area.
Malam Isa Waziri from Yelwa told our correspondent that Kwaro usually bought used cars only to refurbish them and give them out to unemployed youths and less privileged members of the society to cater for their daily needs.
“For instance, if the driver makesN10, 000 a day, all he has to do is remit N1, 000 to Kwaro while he keeps the remaining N9,000 to fend for himself and his family,” he said.
When contacted on phone, Usman Kwaro said he started empowering youths and less privileged 18 months ago and had so far given out about 30 cars. He said, “I am not a very rich man. The cars are used cars which I just refurbish and give people just so that they can have something doing.”
