A Senate delegation led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu has paid a condolence visit to Fika Emirate over the death of an elderstateman Malam Adamu Ciroma in Potiskum town, Yobe State.
Speaking during the visit at the Emir’s palace on Wednesday, Senator Abdullahi Adamu said they were in Potiskum to convey the sympathy of the National Assembly to the immediate family of the decease.
"Your Royal Highness, the purpose of our visit to this palace and good people of Fika emirate is to condole with you of the demise of our father, our uncle and elderstateman, Malam Adamu Ciroma (Madaki of Fika) who passed away on Wednesday last week.
"It is customary for the National Assembly to recognize this elderstatesman in memory of the service he has rendered to this great country. We raised delegation to visit his dormain and you as the father of this emirate, the Senate nominated us to come and pay condolence visit for the repose of our Father, the late Madaki of Fika, Malam Adamu Ciroma".
He said that the contributions made by the deceased for the development of the country cannot be forgotten, "We missed him more than even this emirate".
He described late Ciroma as a master who was listened, watched and read severally on newspapers, television and radio by all Nigerians.
In his response, the Emir of Fika, who is also the Chairman, Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Dr Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa, represented by the Dala of Fika, Muhammad Maina Waziri thanked the Senate delegation for the visit. He prayed almighty God to reward them abundantly and return them back to the Senate safely.
The delegation was made up of Senators Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa); Bukar Abba Ibrahim (Yobe East); Muhammad Ubale Shitu (Jigawa); Jaremaya Useini (Plateau South); Theodre Orji (Abia Central); Ben Murray-Bruce (Bayelsa East) and Muhammad Hassan representing Yobe South Senatorial zone respectively.
