The Senate said it will consider the $1 billion approved by state governors from the Excess Crude Account for the fight against insecurity in the country.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu yesterday reminded the Senate of a pending issue of the approval, which was raised by Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo) on Wednesday.
He said “Under our rule this matter is to come up today (yesterday) for our consideration. I have looked through the order paper and it is not there, I just want to seek explanation.”
Anyanwu raised a point of order, requesting the permission of his colleagues to sponsor a motion on the withdrawal yesterday. But the motion was missing.
Ekweremadu raised a point order demanding explanation as to why the motion was not listed on the order paper.
But while reacting Senate President Bukola Saraki said Anyanwu had requested for more time and that the motion would now be considered next year.
“It would be considered next legislative day, when we resume, it would be the first item on the order paper. Our party does not do things like that. We would not spend money that does not follow due process. I am assuring you that the money would not be spent until we come back and debate it,” he said.
