Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, has said he felt betrayed by his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s alleged decision to back another candidate for the state’s forthcoming governorship election.
Shaibu, who claimed he was persuaded to be the deputy governor to Obaseki, declared that he added value to Obaseki’s administration in terms of political structure and his finances and should not have been treated the way he has been.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday morning, Shaibu said he was hurt that Obaseki is supporting an outsider instead of him.
“I felt betrayed by the governor because I added value in terms of finances and structure. All the vehicles that were used in 2016 are mine and in 2020, I added value.

“I contributed to how we got the ticket in PDP, both naira and dollars. So, if I said betrayal is an understatement, I feel very hot and betrayed. I sacrifice my entitlement and personal earning to make the system work,” he said.
According to him, Obaseki wants to play the role of a political godfather in the state, a situation they both fought and agreed should never be.
Shaibu said he staked his long term relationship with Senator Adams Oshiomhole to fight oppression and back his principal’s aspiration.
“But despite standing with Obaseki against Oshiomhole whom I considered as a father, it was surprising that the governor is pitching a tent with another governorship aspirant to become the next governor”, Shaibu lamented.
