The Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) recently handed over a police outpost built by Gilmor Engineering Nig. Ltd, two motorcycles and one Hillux pick-up vehicle to Shape village in Wasa District of Abuja.
The Public Relations Officer of the department, Meeme Felicia, in a statement, said the STDD Coordinator, Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, during the hand over, commended the gesture of Gilmor for showing commitment to the welfare of the host community, adding that it couldn’t have come at a better time than now when the security agencies are faced with numerous challenges.
He said government alone cannot contain security challenges which is every one’s business hence all hands must be on deck by way of making collective contributions in making a peaceful environment for the benefit of all.
The police station was built by Gilmor company in addition with two semi-detached two bedrooms that are well furnished. The donation was prompted when one of the company’s expatriate workers was killed on 9th of September 2015 by the community while on duty due to lack of security.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Said Abubakar Bello, was represented by DCP Ishola Baba Ita, who expressed happiness as he collected the items, promised that work will start from the police post immediately as men will also be posted right away.
The community head, Sarki Hakimi, also presented a gift to the FCT minister to show appreciation while the company’s chairman, Mr Alvi, along with the General Manager, Mr. Shayi, called on the police to be up and doing since they now have necessary working materials and prayed that the unfortunate incident will not happen again.
