A deputy vigilante ward commander in charge of Sarkin Arab in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State was yesterday morning stabbed to death by suspected thugs called ‘sara-suka’.
The corpse of the vigilante leader, Musa Jalo, popularly called Baba Musa, was evacuated by the police but later released to the family for burial.
The State Welfare Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ahmad Mudi, who confirmed the incident on phone, said the deceased “was attacked by two suspected miscreants while he was returning from West of Mines with a friend after midnight.”
Mudi said the deceased was trailed by the suspects who called out his name before stabbing him twice in the throat and in the back.
He said the deceased’s companion immediately called the police who evacuated the remains to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“This is the fourth vigilante member that has been killed by miscreants in the state this year. One was killed in Wase LGA, two others in Qua’an Pan and now this in Jos North. We hope the state government will step in to assist us based on the risks we take for the society,” he said.
When contacted, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, said he could not reach the DPO in charge of the area on phone and therefore could not comment on the incident.
