Residents of Otodo Gbame, a riverine community in Lagos on Thursday stormed Alausa Governor’s Office protesting their forceful eviction by the state government.
The protesters under the aegis of Nigerian Slum/Informal Settlement Federation demanded to see Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as they blocked the gate to the Government House in Ikeja.
They marched from Ojota Seven – Up to the government office and insisted on seeing Ambode else they would not vacate the premises.
Veteran Yoruba artist, Adebayo Salami popularly known as Oga Bello was caught in the web of the protest as his car was coming out of the Government House.
The protesters including women and children blocked the entrance and prevented his car from going. His relentless appeals to the protesters to exercise patience fell on deaf ears.
His driver only managed to wriggle out of the quagmire with the help of mobile policemen on ground.
Many government officials could not drive inside the Government House following the blockade.
Tension has enveloped the scene as the protesters struggled with policemen who were trying to remove the barricades at the Government house gate to allow free passage of vehicles.
The policemen have however been civil with the protesters.
The protesters were seen appealing to the government to return them to their settlement which was demolished in June 2016.
The protest is still on as of the time of filing this report.
