The gospel according to Iyabo

‘Some people are phenomenal egotists who move about with gargantuan guts; that’s the only way to describe this ugly old man.’ I observed, hissing aloud.

‘Which ugly old man are you talking about?’ Tahir asked, raising his eyes from the IPad he was using to look at me.

‘The former president of course. After writing a letter to discourage the current president from contesting a second term and inciting Nigerians against him by starting a Coalition against his government, the old grouch is still not satisfied, he now has to go round saying this administration is a failure.’ I replied, showing Tahir the newspaper in my hand with a headline that says “You are running a failed government’”- Obasanjo tells Buhari.

‘But what do you expect? He cannot afford to have anyone right the wrongs committed during his tenure or in the administration run by his selected heirs, so the best he can do is to continue denigrating those making the effort, in order to distract them.’ Tahir answered.

‘Then someone should tell him that he doesn’t even have the right to speak, that compared to his record of grand corruption and colossal looting, we see a lot of sanity in the slow but steady steps of this government. How can a man who perfected the art of bribery so much that he brazenly sent millions of naira in Ghana-must-go bags, to the National Assembly to make the lawmakers do his bidding, have the moral authority to criticise others?’ I queried.

‘That’s the big question really. But do not agonise yourself trying to defend the present government against Obasanjo’s devious mind. Your job has been made easier by what his own daughter wrote against him.’ Tahir replied.

‘Really? When did Obasanjo’s daughter write something against him?’ I asked.

‘Some weeks ago, just after he wrote the letter criticising the president. I’m surprised you haven’t seen it, given the tonnes of stuff you receive via WhatsApp.’ He answered.

‘I’m surprised I missed it too. Which daughter was that and what did she say?’ I asked.

‘Its the former senator, Dr Iyabo Obasanjo. As for what she said, I better just forward it to you. You will enjoy it better in her own words because any summary will not do justice to the special missile she sent to her father. And here goes.’ Tahir said, as soon as he forwarded the letter to me.
