Three factors were said to be instrumental to the victory of All Progressives Congress ( APC) victory in the Bauchi South senatorial by-election held a week ago.
This was disclosed by the Special Assistant to Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) and Non-Governmental Organisations ( NGOs) ,Mansur Manu Soro while speaking to journalists in Bauchi.
According to him, the first factor was the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari to campaign for the party’s candidate before he embarked on vacation.
He said that the campaign flag off by the president swayed thousands of voters who were hitherto reluctant or supporting other candidates or parties to change their minds and voted for the APC.
Soro said that, the other factor was the prompt action taken by governor Mohammed Abubakar and the party leadership to pacify some of the dissenting voices aggrieved after the party’s primaries.
Outcome of the APC primaries and the emergence of Gumau as the candidate nearly threatened the party’s chances of winning the election as many of the aspirants were disappointed
by his emergence.
The SA to the governor that the large turnout of women and youths in the election also contributed alot to APC victory.
According to him, most of the women and youths who voted for the party are engaged in various federal government’s Social Investment Programmes (SIPs).
He said that beneficiaries of the various programmes like N-Power, Home-Grown School Feeding programme and others formed grassroots mobilisation movement in the run-off to the by-election.
