The leader of the arrested syndicate of kidnappers operating in Kano metropolis has said they usually demanded recharge cards as ransom for children they kidnapped.

Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, while parading the suspects, Khalifa Usman a.k.a Gurgu, Idris Aminu and Abdullahi Aminu Sharu, yesterday, said the command was able to rescue seven children from the kidnappers’ den. 

He said the suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime while coordinated efforts towards the arrest of other fleeing members of the syndicate was on.

Majiya said the recued children’s age ranged from 4 to 5, adding that one GSM phone, three SIM cards and recharge cards were recovered and tendered as exhibits.

Usman, identified as the leader of the group, said when they kidnapped a child they will start making phone calls to negotiate with the parents for delivery of ransom. 

He said during the process, the child would be taken faraway from town where they would be delivered to the house of either a ward head or village head as a missing child, adding that the ransom collected was usually in recharge cards of various network providers.
