The Manager of Kelechi Iheanacho, Kingley Ogbodo has said the forward deserved more playing time at his club, Leicester City.
Iheanacho put up an arguably man of the match performance in the Super Eagles 4-2 win over Argentina last Tuesday, but he was left on the bench by Coach Claude Puel yesterday when Leicester took on his former club, Manchester City.
Ogbodo said his client can be a hero for both club and country if his managers can have faith in him.
Kelechi curled in a trademark free-kick for Nigeria’s first goal and also set up Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi for another.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria rallied back from two goals down to beat Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly game played in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday.
Ogbodo who is in Abuja, Nigeria, to scout for young football talents through his academy, Citizens Football Academy, want the new Leicester City manager to give Iheanacho more starting berth in the Premier League.
“Kelechi is always ready to be the man to lead Leicester City goal quest, but it is left for the manager to put him on and let him show what he can.”
“I’m sure with the form he is picking up now, he will surely deliver if given more playing time.”
“He deserves to be playing more regularly at Leicester and I believe Jamie Verdy can profit from his creativeness” Ogbodo said.
Leicester City signed the Nigerian forward for a reported £25 from Manchester City in the summer.
He came in as a recognised finisher as his 14 goals for City came at an average of one every 104 minutes.
He has been limited to only a couple of Premier League starts and six further appearances off the bench this season.
His only goal for the Foxes so far came in the Carabao Cup victory over Leeds United.
Iheanacho is in direct competition with Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa, Islam Slimani, and Shinji Okazaki for a place in the starting lineup.
