Yobe State government has received additional 216 Libyan deportees from Port Harcourt camp and handed 33 Nigeriennes to Nigerian immigration service for onward repatriation to Niger Republic.
The state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, who spoke to newsmen at the deportees Transit camp in Damaturu, on Saturday, said the Nigeriennes were identified after careful screening by officials of Nigerian Immigration Service.
"We therefore handed them over to Comptroller, NIS, for onward repatriation to their country", he said.
He said, already, all the 216 deportees were screened by the security team coordinated by state repatriation committee.
"So, we ascertained their status before handing them over to their local government officials and Immigration. Now, the local government councils will completely own them monitor them and to help them where necessary", he said.
Also speaking, the Comptroller, Nigerian Immigration Service in the state, Abdulfatah Adamu, said the Nigeriennes were separated from the Nigerians using accurate knowledge of their service.
He said as gate keepers to the country, they would deliver all the 33 deportees to where they can guarantee their movement to their regions and towns in Niger Republic.
"It’s our official responsibility, and we will do it according to laid down procedure" he said.
He noted that Yobe boarder in the tran-sahara axis is porous, "It takes a great effort by our men to stop foreigners from imbadding our nation illegally", he added.
The Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Musa Jidawa, commended the security Agents for good working synergy to safeguard the returnees and thanked governor Gaidam for providing logistics to evacuate the returnees from Port Harcourt and reuniting them on time.
