The Chairman, Nigeria Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAOPMED), Yobe State branch, Garba Sabo has expressed concern over increase abuse of illicit drug and its circulation among youths in the State.
The Chairman, said in an interview with newsmen said the practice is posing serious health risk to the societal future.
"It is very unfortunate that not only the youths, even married women come to us asking for Ventolin Syrup, trammadol tablets and other hard substances.
"This will pose a great threat to the security of the State and nation at large ,we have set up a task force committee among us to check its proliferation" he said.
Sabo revealed that most sellers of the illicit drugs operates independently without any certified membership.
"In fact they are quacks, not certified or registered with any pharmaceutical Organisation, spoiling the future of our teeming Youth. Jeopardizing the future of Tommorrow’s leaders" he added.
He called on the NDLEA and NAFDAC to sensitise the youths on the dangers of drugs abuses.
When contacted, the Coordinator of NAFDAC in Yobe State, Lawan Musa Dadingelma said they use to organize periodical sensitization workshop for the drug dealers and vendors.
"We also go to markets and raid flash points where illicit drugs are sold. We do mop the places and are determined to get rid of it" he said.
According to him, the agency had recorded success in comparison to last year "go to shops and check out, you will discover that only registered and standard drugs are sold.”
